The Road Ahead: Charting a Path for Clinical Neuropsychology Training in Lithuania

On May 9, 2025, the EFPA Standing Committee on Clinical Neuropsychology (SC-CNP), in collaboration with the Lithuanian Psychological Association's Neuropsychology Group and the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, hosted an online discussion titled "The Road Ahead: Creating a Clinical Neuropsychology Program in Lithuania." The event brought together a diverse group of professionals, policymakers, and academics to discuss opportunities and challenges in developing clinical neuropsychology training in Lithuania.

Aimed at initiating a national dialogue, the event focused on aligning Lithuania’s training pathways with European standards and healthcare needs. Three presentations set the stage: Fernando Barbosa (Portugal) outlined established training models across six EU countries; Laura Hokkanen (Finland) introduced the pilot of the EuroPsy Specialist Standards in Clinical Neuropsychology; and Aistė Pranckevičienė presented an overview of Lithuania’s current situation and prospects for program development.

The subsequent panel discussion, moderated by Sandra M. Lettner (Austria), examined institutional support, current resources, and potential international collaboration—particularly in supervision. A stepwise, modular approach to competency development was proposed as a feasible starting point, with the long-term goal of establishing a comprehensive, consecutive training program in Lithuania.
