News - WHO : Report on

The report 'Policies and practicies for mental health in Europe - launched on the occasion of World Mental Health Day 2008, will form a basis for much of the work that still needs to be done despite the progress achieved since the endorsement of the Helsinki Declaration and Action Plan in January 2005.

It provides data not hitherto available on mental health policy and practice across the European Region, it highlights important information gaps and allows for country to country comparisons on indicators such as numbers of psychiatrists, financing, community services, training of
workforce, prescription of anti-depressants and representation of users and carers.

Data for the 42 Member States involved was obtained from the Ministries of Health.

The website contains press material, fact sheets, a summary of the
report findings and other related documents.
