Important notice: EFPA congress ECP 2021 Ljubljana postponed to July 2022

27 Apr 2020

17th European Congress of Psychology Ljubljana, Slovenia, postponed to July 2022

Message to all EFPA member associations, as well as Associate and Affiliate member associations

This is to inform you that we have taken the difficult decision to postpone our 17th European Congress of Psychology from 2021 to 2022.

You will be aware that the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS), given the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, decided to postpone the 32nd International Congress of Psychology (ICP) that was to have been held in this year 2020, to 2021. The postponement is to a date approximately a week apart and at a venue around 750km from Ljubljana, also in Eastern Europe.

EFPA has carefully considered the issues the ICP postponement has raised for the organisers of the 17th ECP, the Slovenian Psychologists’ Association.  We have held conversations with interested parties, and considered a number of options and strategies of possible mitigation. EFPA has however now agreed, notwithstanding the disappointments and other difficulties that will ensue, that holding the 17th ECP in 2021 in the face of these issues is not viable.

The 17th European Congress of Psychology has therefore now been rebooked for 5-8 July 2022 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The organisers have planned an exciting theme and programme, and the venue and city of Ljubljana are enticing.  We are confident that ECP2022 can be a success, and the organisers look forward to welcoming you all.  They will write with more details in due course.

We are pleased to confirm that ECP2023 in Brighton, United Kingdom, will proceed as planned.

The General Assembly of EFPA is still planned to take place in July 2021, and we are in conversation with our colleagues in IUPsyS about this being hosted in conjunction with ICP2021 in Prague.  More information will follow in due course.

We considered it appropriate to take this decision before the 17th ECP opened for abstracts, early enough so our colleagues and delegates can factor the change into their plans, and in time to take advantage of rescheduling without penalty cost.

We remain grateful for your support,

Christoph Steinebach - EFPA President

Marko Vrtovec - SPA President

Sabine Steyaert - EFPA Director
